Pawsible Service Dogs raises and trains service dogs to help disabled people and people living with post-traumatic stress disorder participate more fully in their communities, workplaces and everyday lives.
Each dog is trained to provide specialist, task-based support tailored to the person they will assist, helping reduce barriers to safety, confidence, mobility and social connection.
One of those people is Amelia, a young person living with disability. Her golden retriever service dog, Sammy, is being trained to recognise and respond to signs that an episode may be developing.
Sammy helps Amelia feel safer in public spaces while supporting her growing independence. Amelia and her family hope he will give her greater freedom, confidence and opportunities to connect with others, alongside the reassurance that support is close at hand when she needs it.
Spectrum Foundation funding contributed to the salary of Pawsible’s experienced Canine Trainer, who supports each dog and client through training, placement and the development of a strong, lasting partnership.
