What started as a local event has grown into a movement and a fixture in Auckland’s cultural calendar. The annual Illuminate Market run by Recreate NZ, champions the creativity, skills, and individuality of people with diverse abilities. This event is open, welcoming, and full of heart.
The night market has become a space where people connect through food, music, and creativity – a space where belonging isn’t just a buzzword, it’s a feeling. Illuminate showcases the power of community and creativity in driving meaningful change.
Most event participants are people with disabilities and others from marginalised groups, all showcasing their original products, crafts, and performing arts. Promoting both social inclusion and financial autonomy.
Because Illuminate doesn’t just foster expression and connection. It’s about opportunity. The market challenges limiting perceptions through entrepreneurship and inclusive employment.
Our funding helped Recreate grow the event and expand what’s possible. More stalls, more creations, more people coming together to celebrate the value of everyone.
