Disability Connect launched its Housing Information Service in January 2025, with a straightforward aim: to help disabled people and whānau find homes where they could live well.
Based in Auckland, with a strong focus on South Auckland, the service quickly became a trusted guide through a housing system that can be confusing, stressful and difficult to navigate.
The service provides free housing information and support with housing assessments and applications, and referrals to other services when appropriate.
Finding a suitable home can be challenging for disabled people and their families. Affordable, accessible, adaptable and safe housing with the right supports is in very short supply.
Disability Connect works alongside families to move them closer to finding housing that is safe, secure and suitable for their needs, while advocating for better housing options to government, community housing providers and the construction sector.
Spectrum Foundation partnered with Foundation North and the J R McKenzie Trust to support the 2025 pilot and continues to invest in this important service, helping more disabled people and their families access appropriate housing.
